It was an old plantation farm in the middle of bucolic Rayle, Georgia, which used to be part of the ancient Callaway Plantation, now lovingly restored to surpass its original a antebellum glory. It consists of 2 broad parcels of acreage, 350 acres at Rayle and 924 acres at Crawfordville, both in middle Georgia. We raise several animals here including rabbits, chicken, peacocks, turkeys, ducks, goats, sheep, cows, ostriches, emus, bison and water buffalo amongst several other species. The kids' riding horses, including old Camille the Arabian, are in pasture here. It has become a veritable animal farm, and indeed, there is an Ark right in front of the main farm house!
The name Agulu derives from the ancestral homeland of our founder, who insists the red clay soil of middle Georgia is almost identical to the rich plummy soil of his African childhood. Now, we haven't all been there to verify that story for ourselves, but sounds plausible enough....
All our water is sourced from deep wells located in the farm. Other amenities on the farm include a seasonal stream, duck swamp, medium-sized swimming pool, a skating rink, three lakes and several outhouses. We have now started a vineyard, which is always a risky proposition in middle Georgia, but we are optimistic that before too long we might finally raise a glass- or two- to our health and yours, with Rayle's very finest!
This has been an agricultural experiment in motion. It has given so much joy to our family and friends, and fulfillment to the vision of our founder who always dreamt of running (or living in) a working farm.
Friend, if you happen to be in the area, please stop by for a drink- or two.
